Positive Reinforcement in the Form of Money

Owner of Basecamp Resorts I’ll never forget – I was on the boardwalk, downtown Canmore- and the money had been deposited in my account from our loan that we got. It was a million dollars. And I was like Ahh! This is unreal. Because essentially I thought that we were going to have to sell the land, with the plans and the footings and be done with it. And actually, I had a backup person who was willing to lend us money at like 15% that came with like baseball bats and balls and chains like it was so bad. Like this was terrible. It was so stressful. Tim and I had just gotten married and we were essentially bankrupt and living in an Air BnB- a shoebox- so the moment I received that money… it was a validation. Do you know how many times people told me you’re a girl, you’re young, you don’t know anything, this is stupid, get a job… like, over and over, and over again! Why do you want to do this? Na na na na na. All the time! So when you get a million dollars-and it’s not my million dollars, its for the project- but it validated that this is actually going to happen. We are going to pull it off, build a business, build a building, and open. Up until that moment I was thinking ‘we are screwed, we have no money, we are a hole in the ground’. It was positive reinforcement from a third party source, in the form of money.
